The Majesty palm, or Ravenea Rivularis, is a native of Madagascar where it is usually found growing along river banks. The Majesty is one of the most popular and beneficial palms for interior and exterior decorating in homes and offices. Its beautiful dark green arching fronds fit with almost any decor and are considered some of the most “majestic” in the palm kingdom. This is a very slow growing and easy care palm that needs water about once a week, it thrives is bright indoor light but can tolerate shade and can live for many years with proper care. As a tropical plant, they do like humidity. During dryer cooler temperatures they should be misted and kept over a small tray of water filled with pebbles so that their roots do not sit in the water. During the growing season feed with a little bit of weak liquid fertilizer. When potting up your Majesty palm you need to use a fast draining sandy potting mix with a little peat. Because this is a slow growing plant you may only need to repot every other year. Majesty is also a fantastic screening palm and is commonly grown outdoors in hardiness zones that do not get less than 36 degrees Fahrenheit. Shipping and handling can be very tough on live plants so please be sure to open and check your plant right away. Mist the foliage and check the soil for moisture.
